Marco Island and Goodland Cultural Organizations Unite –
CAMIG is born
A recent survey conducted by Collier Convention & Visitors Bureau has pointed to cultural tourism as one of the top ten reasons people come to visit our area. Those of us who live on Marco and Goodland are very fortunate to enjoy from a wide variety of cultural venues ranging from performing arts to visual arts to creative arts and more.
For great live community theater we have both the very entertaining Island Community Theater and the Marco Players, for the visual and creative arts there is both the Island Foundation for the Arts and the Marco Island Center for the Arts. The quaint fishing village of Goodland also has its own Arts Alliance and of course our wonderful Marco Island Historical Museum and finally the longstanding Marco Island YMCA make for a very well rounded list of wonderful cultural contributors to the Marco Island/Goodland scene.
Each of these groups adds a tremendous amount to the cultural world on Marco/Goodland and the Naples area on their own, united there is no telling of their potential. In the spirit of cooperation and a unified voice a new umbrella organization has been created, the Cultural Alliance of Marco Island and Goodland or CAMIG for short. The members represent one of the seven organizations mentioned above, and realize that they are stronger together than as individual organizations. They see CAMIG as a clearinghouse for arts information on Marco and Goodland and in fact, at the top of CAMIG’s priority list is to create an online calendar for upcoming events of these seven organizations and perhaps others as well.
As Beverly Dahlstrom, CAMIG inaugural president has said, “We want to enhance quality of life, and to contribute to the economic growth of the Island.”
So, please look forward to CAMIG , their unified on-line arts calendar and more.
